PROTECTING YOURSELF

Your Home, Inside and Outside
Criminals come in all different shapes, sizes, and looks, but they all have one thing in common, taking what is NOT THEIRS !
There are many ways to protect yourself from criminals and some ways are so simple that we don't realize it.
In this installment we'll talk about ways to protect yourself when you're at home and outside your home.

Our home is the one place where we feel the most protected and we feel we have the upper hand on any intruder that would dare to come into our home. The fact is 90% of home robbery's are done when you are not home, 5% happen when you are coming back home, and the other 5% is when you are home asleep or not.
The most violent home invasions happen when you're driving into you garage or walking up to the door of your house and a criminal rushes behind you and forces you into your home with a weapon. At this point you are at the will of the criminal and your life is now in jeopardy.
To make things more difficult for criminals to invade your home is quite simple and don't cost as much as one thinks.

Protecting your home when you are there and away should be at the top of your list.
Getting a home security camera system is the first line in defense and do not cost as much as the majority of people think. A good 4 camera security system set in 4 corners of your home is a great way to start. These "Do It Yourself" systems can cost from $150 to $300 and you should always make sure they are in HD with wide angle lens and a built in DVR and Hard Drive.
Installing is simple as finding areas of your home and running some wires in your attic or basement and can be done in a few hours. Another easy to use, although only protects your front door is the home doorbell security system. These work great, but their viewing area is limited and in a small range, but these work great for apartment dwellers.
The security systems are great and assist police with visual information that can help in arrests, but what happens when you are at your most vulnerable, getting in or out of your car. It doesn't matter whether you park in a garage or on the street, criminals are the best at blending in with the surroundings. A couple ways to protect yourself is with pepper spray and your cars panic button if you're assaulted. Being alert is your best defense and your greatest offense in protecting yourself. So when you're pulling car into your garage or parking on the street, always look in your mirrors and look around for any suspicious people walking in or close by you. If you see someone suspicious, it's best to stay in your car and drive to another place or call 911 for help.
Remember, being alert is your best defense and your greatest offense.

We hope these tips will help you make your home into a better protected place and keep you safe.
